The Vinyl Record Comeback

Vinyl records are making a huge comeback — and they’re expect to become even more popular during the next 5 years. More people will buy vinyl albums. In the United States, Americans will spend $54.01 million on vinyl albums this years, according to “The 2013-2018 World Outlook for LP Vinyl Record Albums,” a report from ICON Group International. By 2018, sales will reach $80.99 million in the U.S., the report said. During the same period, vinyl LP sales in the United Kingdom are expected to increase from $7.85 million (in U.S. dollars) to $10.2 million. Obviously, industry observers are expecting a comeback. New electronics allow people to convert LPs into MP3s, and services like Amazon’s AutoRip are allowing people to buy their vinyl records and download them as MP3s, too.
